New Free Knitting Patterns for January 2025

New Free Knitting Patterns for January 2025

It’s a new year which means all of the knitting pattern designers are coming out from their holiday breaks with some exciting new (and free!) knitting patterns. I’ve rounded up some of my favourites from December 2024 and January 2025 so far and I’m excited to share them with you. With projects ranging from small fingerless gloves to and dress (scream!) I feel like there is something for everyone even within this edited down list.

Berno Mittens by Hannah Kleen

From the designer:

“These mittens are worked in rib stitch from the cuff to the fingers. I whipped these up in a day, so I guess these mittens make the perfect weekend project. Bonus: they use less than one skein, so they are perfect for scraps!”

I love these fingerless mittens and the colour of the sample is perfect. I’ve got some scraps that I’m thinking about using up with these at some point before the transitional days of spring arrive.

Damask Socks by Amanda Morse

From the designer:

The Damask Socks are a beautifully textured pair of socks featuring a knit-and-purl design that mimics tiny cables without the extra effort! Inspired by the popular Damask Hat, these socks are perfect for adding a touch of elegance to your sock drawer or gifting to someone special.

This pattern is beginner-friendly yet sophisticated, with instructions that guide you through creating a stunning texture from simple stitches.

There is something about these that caught my eye. Maybe it’s the subtle glint of the yarn in the mock cables or maybe it’s something else but I just thought everything about them looked really well done. The construction is the type I like for socks and seems like it could be another relatively quick project which is always nice to have in your back pocket. And if you needed any more motivation to download this pattern the sizes range from baby to adult, so you can knit these cute socks for the whole family.

Okay, now onto a few larger projects!

Hold the Line by Sonder Yarn Co.

“HOLD THE LINE is a light and airy sweater that combines the delicate texture of laceweight yarn held together with mohair, creating a soft, fluffy fabric with beautiful drape. This flattering raglan design is knit from the top down and features wide, modern stripes that add a playful touch to the classic silhouette. The collar is folded and two sleeve options are provided — choose between a straight sleeve with a loose cuff or a slight balloon sleeve with a snug cuff.”

This is such a perfect basic sport weight raglan sweater pattern to add to your library. I can see this working equally as well in a solid colour as it does the stripes. I am definitely a fan of the low contrast wide stripes featured in the sample though!

So I never thought I needed a knit dress until….

The Tulip Lilu Dress by Knitting House came across my Ravelry page.

From the designer:

“The Tulip Lilu dress is a cozy and stylish knitwear piece crafted from high-quality merino wool. This dress features a charming milk-colored base adorned with a delicate tulip pattern.

The merino wool ensures warmth and softness, making it perfect for chilly days while providing comfort and breathability. The Tulip Lilu dress combines classic design with a touch of elegance, making it a versatile addition to any wardrobe.”

I love the texture. I love the colour. I love the styling. It is so perfect! A dress on US 4 needles seems only slightly crazy, so if I come across the right yarn for this one, I might just have to cast it on for the fall.

That’s all for the past couple of months! Are there any other new free patterns that you love that I missed? Let me know!

Happy knitting!
